Summer heat

We can't any of us avoid climate change as dry, hot summers get  drier and hotter.  Our habits, without extra air conditioning (except in the wine store!) have to change, being active in the early morning, keeping blinds down, and thanking our lucky stars that our house is relatively well-insulated.  So in these days of energy consciousness Mary tells me that the advice is to set your air conditioning at 26°, and by chance that is what the inside temp is here, even when it's nearly 40° outside.

We have just ended our period of family visits - 3 sons and assorted companions in turn, then our nephew David who left this morning.  It has all been very pleasant, and some photos follow.  A friend grumbled that photos we posted of him always seemed to show him eating and drinking, which can't really be helped, but in the interests of truth I should say that we did plenty else with everyone who came, as well as watching cycling on the tv and listening to music.

With David we sent yesterday to the Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes, a marvellou and fairly recent museum we'd been to a couple of times before.  We also went to La Grande Motte a couple of times, once with David to commemorate his in-laws' bike ride following in the tyre-treads of Tom Vernon in his Fat man on a bicycle - both they and we have connections with him.  We ate several times at our latest favourite restaurant l'Ecailler de Beaux Arts in Montpellier which just knows how to cook and serve fish and seafood.  In between whiles we made sure Edmond the dog was comfortable and tried to look after the tortoise who has just about survived the heat

To end with a few Nîmes museum pictures - we'll certainly be returning there.
